Hospital Learnings !

5 days in hospital made me learn some profound life learnings, thankfully i wasn’t the patient otherwise didn’t have the mind space and conditions to think.
Last week i was in Dehradun, my parents live there. My dad was attacked by Dengue, I was there to take care of him. For those who don’t know its a kind of fever which rapidly reduces your blood platelet counts and make your body vulnerable.
I was attending to my father ,i had lot of time to sit back and observe, talk to my father and reflect on some of the leanings he had in his life. Here are some of the learnings which standout for me along. While he was talking about himself, i was observing multiple people and trends and hence below learnings are from all the observations:
I noticed that people realise the importance of life mostly when they are pushed to illness, misery and pain. Proactive behaviour lacks in most of people not only in patients.Till the time its difficult for people to walk and live life comfortably people do not pay attention to the health advice, lifestyle, eating habits and other advice about their well being.
e.g Till the time doctor tells that your sugar levels are high, people do not get up to walk and stop eating junk, control weight.
Till the time people are able to walk in some way (even with pain) they do not start taking care of their knees
Till the time one gets a heart attack, some people just don’t stop eating fried food
The outcome is that they have to learn the hard way, they go through illness, hospitalisation, pain, unrecoverable losses and what not.
My questions to such people is :
1. I mean do you really have to be so rigid that you become your own enemy?
2. Is your ego so high that you reject everybody’s advice just to prove your self strong?
3. Whom are you fooling in the end?
4. Is your life so unworthy of not getting your attention?
5. Things thats occupying your attention at the place of health is so heavy that you can’t push them out?
Well that also lead us to talk about your will power. How much character strength you have to let other things control you versus you controlling your life? Character is not only about ethics, its also about your Will to control your life !
The importance of breath and oxygen can only be realised by patients who are depending on the oxygen machine to breath. No machine, No oxygen,No life !
It surprises me how can one wants life but don’t want to take care of the prime faculty, your body? Why is health the extra and granted thing in life? Why is junk food and laziness ruling your life? How can laziness be more powerful then your yoga?
To my honest submission, i was one among those who would take “Yoga” as something old fashioned made for old people and something that doesn’t fit my style. Yes I was among those. I rejected yoga every time my health needed attention and went for fancy things like Zumba,Aerobics,Bollywood,Hollywood dances and what not. i tried them, left them because my body wasn’t meant for fast and rigorous exercises and this learning came after a long time however i was continuously searching for something that suits my body.
By the way, have you now started thinking about me, mind you thats not only me. There are millions of people who live with this thought process.
Well i am not saying fancy is bad, neither i am saying go for yoga. All i mean to say is we try to hide behind excuses and look for comfortable places which will keep us away from “Effort” or at least sound fashionable.
i am finally on yoga because i have learnt and experienced its benefit and i love my life. i don’t want to be in hospital for carelessness and begging for life from god. I learn the importance and technique of right breathing because we faultier there too, most of us don’t know what the right way of breathing.
People beg for life when its close to death, when life exist they fight, get angry, cry, eat junk food, take almost everything in life for granted. What an irony!
Between two extremes of life and death is health and thats what most of people ignore the most.
They wait for their bodies to pain and shake them to get up and do something about it.
If you look at your body as a machine and work or party hard and expect your body to take all that then mind you, every machine needs regular maintenance. If not daily, at least 3 times a week.
At the end choice is your’s, breath is your’s, body is your’s and life is yours !
